About of the Department

Sri Adichunchanagiri College of Arts and Commerce was established in 1975 and the Department of Kannada was commenced in the same year. During the last five years many persons have contributed for the growth of the Department.

Academic activities of the Department:

The faculty members regularly attend seminars, workshops and conferences to update their knowledge.  Prominent resource persons from different fields are invited for the special guest lectures. Kannada books  total no. of 4213 available in the college library.

  • Inspiring students to take-up UPSC exams through literature.
  • Creating good citizens through teaching literature.
  • To enhance proficiency of communication  skill in Kannada.

Weakness

  1. of students are coming from below poverty line & Rural areas.
  2. Phobia among the students community towards old Kannada literature.

Opportunities

  1. Students are involving in co-curricular activities.
  2. Students can excel in getting govt. jobs in the lower cadres as language is pne the compulsory papers in the qualifying examination
  3. Students have opportunities to get jobs in  the area of journalism, cultural forums if they are trained
  4. In UPSC exams, for the past 5-6 Years, most of the successful candidates are from Optional Kannada.

Challenges

  1. Awareness of mother language
  2. Inspiring the students to develop the attitude of composing poems, writing short stories, articles, etc.
  3. Attracting student to learn languages is a challenge in the contemporary world. because students are attracted by professional course and computers.
  4. To take-up Research work.

Future plans

  1. To Introduce Optional Kannada Course in B.A programme.
  2. Motivating the students to participate in theatre activities.
  3. To involve students in translation activities.
