ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
The Department of Undergraduate English was established in the year 1975along with the inception of the college. A well-established learning infrastructure of the college supports our department for all teaching-learning activities Qualified and committed faculty.
The department has a standard set of Programme Specific Outcomes and Course Outcomes. The Department started to offer B.A English Literature in the year 2014.
The students especially from the underprivileged stratum are trained to acquire English Communication skills along with knowledge about varied social values obtained for the study of Literature written in English around the globe.
The Department arranges guest lectures through Utopia (Department Association) on recent trends in Literature and Literary Theory, every year for the benefit of the students. CBCS curriculum is offered, with a choice of elective papers along with compulsory papers .NEP-2020is being implemented from the current academic year 2021-22.

The department has been achieving a good academic result every year. We are trying to achieve overall development of the students to meet the expectations to support their career and to use the knowledge of English for their future endeavour
MISSION OF THE DEPARTMENT
- To develop confidence, self-assured and responsible individual to achieve their full potential and to engage in lifelong learning.
- To humanise their knowledge by incorporating ethical values in their life style and develop right spirit in nation building.
- To encourage students to be independent and develop a sense of responsibility for themselves as well as others around them in the society.
- To empower them through learning and constructive thinking and enlighten towards social responsibilities.
- To make them focus on contemporary critical issues.
Learning Outcome:
- To pursue teaching either at the secondary level or College level to pursue career as journalist, reporters and editors in print media and electronic media.
VISION OF THE DEPARTMENT
- To enable the rural students at least to learn the correct usage of English language.
- A sincere attempt is being made to make the students realize the dire necessity of English language in the present global scenario.
- To help the students to overcome their inferiority complex in learning English language.
- To repose confidence and create interest among the students to learn and use more and more English language in their practical life.
- To inspire the students to acquire the skills of English language in good spirit.
DEPARTMENTAL SWOC ANALYSIS
Strength:
- The institution has good infrastructure with ICT facilities.
- It has a well-equipped fully automated library, laboratories and sports facilities.
- CBCS system is implemented for interdisciplinary learning.
- It has highly qualified faculty with adequate research.
- Internet and Wi-Fi facilities are available in all departments for better access to online resources.
- Eco-friendly nature and ragging free campus attract more students to the institution.
- Students show eagerness to learn
Weakness:
- Majority of the students are from the rural background.
- Since the classes are crowded individual attention cannot be given.
- Most of the students are weak in English communication as they have studied in Kannada medium.
- As most of the students are first generation of educators in their family, they lack guidance to purse their interested course.
Opportunities:
- Higher Education opportunities like M.A, M.Sc. and M.Com, B.Ed. Etc.
- Employment in Government, Semi-Government and private institutions.
- To Increase awareness of English as an integral part of future education.
- To organise a greater number of learner-centric activities
Challenges:
- The ratio of students and teachers is too wide.
- Lack of confidence and the fear of failure is a big obstacle.
- To maintain the academic standards in spite of the weaknesses mentioned
- Motivating students to take MA in English course.
- Facilitating students to take jobs in Government and non-government sectors, KPSC, UPSC and academic institutes etc.
